IMD Issues Rain, Thunderstorm and Strong Wind Alert for 16 States; Monsoon Progress Remains Delayed in Delhi
The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for 16 states, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds on June 27. Delhi's monsoon arrival has been delayed until early July, while several northern, central, southern and Himalayan states are expected to experience intense weather conditions over the coming days.
According to the IMD, the arrival of the southwest monsoon in the Delhi-National Capital Region has been delayed and is now expected during the first week of July. However, pre-monsoon activity will remain active from June 27, bringing light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning to several parts of the region.
In Uttar Pradesh, the weather department has issued rainfall alerts for multiple districts. A more intense spell of rainfall is expected to begin across the state from June 29.
Bihar is likely to experience light rainfall until June 28, followed by widespread heavy rainfall in several areas from June 29. The IMD has also forecast a drop of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in the state's maximum temperature over the next five days.
Weather conditions are also expected to change significantly in Rajasthan between June 27 and June 29. Several districts are likely to witness rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds with speeds ranging from 40 to 50 kilometres per hour.
In Madhya Pradesh, heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds has been forecast for several districts. Wind speeds in some areas may reach up to 50 kilometres per hour.
The southwest monsoon has also become more active over southern India. Tamil Nadu has been placed under a heavy rainfall alert for June 27 and June 28, with the IMD predicting that rainfall activity will intensify further in the coming days.
In the Himalayan region, Himachal Pradesh is expected to receive rainfall in Shimla, Mandi, Kullu and nearby areas, where wind speeds may range between 60 and 70 kilometres per hour. Uttarakhand has also been placed under a weather warning, with both hilly and plain districts likely to experience rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms.
The latest forecast indicates an active weather pattern across large parts of India, with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and powerful winds expected to affect multiple regions over the coming days.
